My beautiful wife Amanda, my lovely14 year old dog Madden & me
I lived most of my life in the fishing town of Stromness on the Mainland of Orkney, where my fathers family were from and my Norse surname originates, and my love of taking pictures began.
Now based in the Highlands of Scotland, my photography is constantly evolving and I am always learning, and I suspect I always will be.
Taking photographs allows me to be more conscious and present, a life skill that has totally transformed both my mental and spiritual wellbeing as well as developing my photography vision. Today, photography is my meditation, when I am being creative in nature my soul feels at peace, a peace that nothing else comes near to providing.
By browsing my various studio collections, you will see photographs taken over a period of 20 years. In that time span, my photography skills, interests & styles have naturally developed & changed, which you'll clearly notice. I'm happy to share with you some of my favourites and will add more as time moves on.
Here are a few quotes that have inspired me over the years, with a couple from my favourite photographers. x

“Actually, it's nature itself that creates the most beautiful pictures, I'm only choosing the perspective.” ~ Katja Michael
“Sharpness is a bourgeois concept” ~ Henri Cartier-Bresson
“Art is what we call...the thing an artist does.
It's not the medium or the oil or the price or whether it hangs on a wall or you eat it.
What matters, what makes it art, is that the person who made it overcame the resistance, ignored the voice of doubt and made something worth making. Something risky. Something human. Art is not in the...eye of the beholder. It's in the soul of the artist.” ~ Seth Godin

“You don't make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved.” ~ Ansel Adams
“There is nothing worse than a sharp image of a fuzzy concept.” ~ Ansel Adams

Most of my images are available as high quality prints and canvas (except images where there are people in them that can be identified). These are printed from a small, privately owned professional print studio.
